Support the Lepanto Regatta

The Nautical Club of Messolonghi is proud to organize the Lepanto Regatta, an international sailing event commemorating the Battle of Lepanto (1571)—one of the most decisive naval battles in European history.

This historic event, where the Christian fleet halted Ottoman expansion into the Mediterranean, is a defining moment in maritime history. The regatta will retrace part of the fleet’s route, starting from Messolonghi to Porto Skrofa, where the Christian forces gathered before the battle, and returning to Messolonghi for a grand awards ceremony and cultural events.

Why This Event Matters

✔️ A Tribute to History – Bringing together sailors, historians, and communities from nations involved in the battle: Spain, Italy, Malta, Venice, Genoa, and Greece.
✔️ A Celebration of Sailing – Showcasing the power of sailing as a bridge between cultures, uniting people through sport and heritage.
✔️ An International Gathering – Featuring distinguished guests, diplomats, and representatives from historic maritime cities.

The Hellenic Sailing Federation (eio.gr) and Olympic medalist Tasos Bountouris have already expressed their strong support for this initiative.
